As Belfast is the home of our HQ, we are passionate about giving back to the community and thrilled to join other NI tech companies in the Catalyst Generation Innovation Programme, presenting the excitement of the tech sector to the next generation of innovators.
Last week, two of our Belfast-based ANGOKA team attended a local school based in Antrim, Northern Ireland, to showcase our technology in action and share snapshots of two of our innovative drone projects. We brought along our demo drone which the students were very intrigued by, although a little disappointed when they found out they couldn’t have a go flying it!
Our Hardware Engineer Ryan and Recruitment Executive Chantelle spoke about the day:
“I remember in school when people came to visit it was such a great opportunity to see what lies beyond education. There are so many exciting startups and technology companies in Northern Ireland, so it was great to show how ANGOKA fits into the local tech ecosystem and bring awareness to the students that IT isn’t just software development and coding; the options are endless!
Luckily for me, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and followed technology throughout my education but I know others who are still unsure of where their passion lies. That’s why it’s so important to visit schools and make sure they know what opportunities are out there.”
“I was pleased to be able to chat with the year 11s to offer some insights into the different avenues the IT industry has to offer and how the Belfast IT market in particular is booming with opportunities!
After 3 years in tech recruitment, it’s amazing to see just how buoyant the industry is, setting up amazing possibilities for our future generation of engineers!”
At ANGOKA, we chose Belfast as our HQ for a number of reasons (not so much the weather!) According to the NI Cyber Security Sector Snapshot 2021, Belfast has been highlighted as a “UK cyber hub with emerging tech specialisms, ranked second in the UK, and ninth globally within the Top 25 Tech Cities of the Future 2020/21” – the perfect home for a thriving cybersecurity start-up. Not to mention the top class education facilities, including Queen’s and Ulster University and multiple Further Education Colleges contributing to the rich pool of tech talent.
At ANGOKA, we pride ourselves on encouraging a highly diverse team with people from all walks of life. This year we are taking on our first intern and plan to continue working closely with local colleges and universities to implement further opportunities for students at all levels to gain industry experience that can help propel their career in technology and innovation.
Our next stop in the Generation Innovation programme is on 30th March at another local school based in Belfast, where our Firmware Engineer Ronan will give his spin on our technology.
