ANGOKA is thrilled to share that we are participating in the Future Flight Challenge in conjunction with UK Research and Innovation. The challenge has been designed to address ways in which flying can be made more environmentally conscious. We are excited and proud to be a part of this Future Flight revolution and to be exploring the innovation of air mobility.

Key players from all over the UK are contributing to the researchand development of three important projects PORTAL, ALIAS, and SKYWAYS.

Permanent OR Temporary Automated Landings or PORTAL will develop a scalable, reconfigurable, and rapidly deployable automated vertiport capability. These vertiports could be permanent, bespoke, or retro fitted installations on car parks or roof tops as well as temporary operations as a pop-up vertiport for events or disaster-relief. PORTAL will enable any business to leverage Future Flight capabilities.

Agile Integrated Airspace System or ALIAS describes the design of a scalable and cohesive airspace system for the future. This system will be suitable for drones, manned aircrafts, and air taxis with theultimate aim being to bring societal and economic benefits to the UK.

SKYWAY is the unification of airspace to allow manned and unmanned air vehicles to share the sky in the largest network of aerial superhighways. This airspace system will be used to carry out a wide variety of operations whether it be deliveries for the NHS or infrastructure inspection.

Our chairman, Steve Berry, remarked that what once was the stuff of “science fiction” is fast becoming a reality, with ANGOKA right at the core of the innovative process. Yuri Andersson, CEO, emphasises the important role of ANGOKA in ensuring the safety of communication between connected devices adding that it is “central to the successful, safe and secure operation of automated, teleoperated and unmanned aircrafts.”

Gary Cutts, Future Flight Challenge Director at UK Research and Innovation added: “This phase of Future Flight is not just about developing new forms of air vehicle. It’s also about developing the cross-cutting technologies needed to support unmanned airspace systems.

“ANGOKA, by collaborating with companies in projects ALIAS, and in project PORTAL and Skyway, is working to combine the best emerging technologies needed to allow uncrewed aircraft to integrate safely into the existing airspace system. They are forging a path to create a future airspace that will benefit us all.”

The official launch of the FF3 programmes today at Farnborough marks the beginning of an exciting period in the revolution of air mobility, and we are very much looking forward to being a central part of it.
